In the dual study program in Industrial Engineering in the food industry, you can look forward to a high level of practical experience at Nordgetreide and a sophisticated academic education at the Technical University of Lübeck. The dual study program lasts a total of 4.5 years and concludes with a Bachelor of Engineering degree as well as qulification as a Food Technology Specialist. The apprenticeship is completed after 2.5 years and is the foundation for successful studies at the Technical University.
What does an Industrial Engineer of Food Technology do?
During the apprenticeship, you will get to know the production process of industrial cereals. You operate and monitor the entire production process – from the delivery of raw materials to the packaged end product.
You operate all relevant machines and equipment, adjust them to the correct recipes, and continuously monitor the production processes to ensure that the final product meets our high-quality standards. After 2.5 years of training and successfully passing the exam, you will earn the qualification of Food Technology Specialist (m/f/d).
After successfully completing the Food Technology Specialist qualification, the focus shifts to administrative and strategic tasks related to the production process in the third year. You will be part of project teams and take on your own projects applying the knowledge gained during your studies in practice. Thereby you will be given more responsibility.
After successfully completing the studies, a wide range of career opportunities in food production awaits you. These include e.g. production planning, organisation and control, production controlling, process development or product research and development.

Dual Study Program in Business Administration (Bachelor of Arts)

In the dual study program in Business Administration varied practical phases at Nordgetreide are combined with theoretical studies with a focus on Industrial Management at the Duale Hochschule Schleswig-Holstein in Lübeck-Eichholz. The dual study program lasts a total of 3 years and concludes with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration as well as the qualification as an Industrial Clerk (m/f/d). The apprenticeship is completed after 2.5 years and is the foundation for successful studies at the Duale Hochschule.
Alternating between studies and practical work, you acquire an extensive basic knowledge in all areas of business operations. A semester at the university lasts 10 weeks, 9 of which are lecture weeks and 1 week of exams. Starting in the fifth semester you have the opportunity to specialize in 2 main topics, which can be integrated in the bachelor thesis afterwards. As elective modules there are different main topics available such as sales, human resources, or logistics.
What do Business Administration graduates do in the food industry?
During the practical phases of the dual study program at Nordgetreide, you will get to know all economic and business processes of our company. You will work in different departments and gain a comprehensive understanding of the economic aspects of the European food industry. Thereby you will take on your own tasks and complete them independently, responsibly, and accurately. Examples for tasks are placing purchase orders and contracts (purchasing) such as shipping samples for existing and potential customers (sales). Furthermore, you will gain insight into economic processes in areas like human resources, logistics, quality management, accounting and controlling. Working in customer service is also part of the training as well.
After successfully completing the studies, you can choose the focus of your professional career from a wide range of options. Due to the diversity of this dual study program, you will have access to almost all economical departments – from sales and purchasing to human resources, controlling, and beyond.
